The Art of Conversation

I miss my job. Not the getting up at dawn part, or the "what to wear today" part, or the "when is this day going to finally be over" part. Nope, none of that. What I miss is the conversation. The dialogue with my students in the classroom, the gossip at lunch, the laughter at happy hour.

As of late, those old conversations have been replaced with the indiscriminate sounds of a newborn; sometimes happy coos, sometimes torrent screams of demand. And while his smiles can light up my whole world, I am still left with a void. Unfortunately, I've been filling that emptiness in my life with food! And when I'm not eating I'm thinking of what I will eat next or reading a cookbook. Today, I went to grocery store and one of the stock boys said, " Hey, you again! It seems like you're always here!" I gave him a bashful smile and thought, "Yeah, I have a problem."

But then I thought,"No, you have a passion. You love food, and that is not a crime." The challenge, however, is figuring out how to eat well and shed the baby weight! I'll admit that I have often struggled. So, I am starting this blog for many reasons, but mostly, I am hoping to start a conversation. A conversation about good food, healthy choices, bad days, and all the little triumphs in-between.
